Glia was born and raised on the east coast of the US but has explored cultures across asia, europe, africa and the americas during the past 30 years. He discovered drumming at a young age and eventually became interested in computers, samplers, and other electronics during secondary school. Some of his methods have changed but he has always employed mixers as the focal point. He usually records to cassettes and bloats or squashes layers with mixing devices and fx in a single pass rather than thru multitracking software.
Making music began as a deliberate attempt to master his instrument and express himself while improvising. Gradually he has come to view the process and product as a reminder: each collection of sound represents important relationships (with his creator, his friends and fellow artists, his tools etc). Songs document and preserve precious conversations, decisions and discoveries, his frustration with technology, current research and various jokes.
His belief is that full control of life is impossible for humans. Because of this he intentionally avoids control of all musical variables in a vain attempt to shape "perfect" reflections in sound and the resulting sonic outcome is a true mirror of reality: warped, vibrant and surprising.
